What the experience is like
The Can-Am X3 is a different chassis than the standard buggy in our line-up. The engine has more sustained power, the suspension absorbs harder hits without bottoming out, and the chassis tracks tighter through the soft-sand transitions. Confident drivers feel the difference immediately; the X3 rewards committed throttle in a way the standard chassis does not.
The harness is a 4-point race-style fit, snug across the shoulders and lap. It feels different from a standard car seat belt because it locks you into the chassis - any movement is the chassis movement, not yours. Most first-time X3 drivers describe the first ten minutes as recalibrating the input scale; the chassis answers throttle differently and the steering bites in soft sand harder than expected.
The corridor itself is the same Al Qudra zone we use for the standard buggy slots, but the X3 lets you carry a faster line through the deeper sections. Photo stops are the same; the convoy spacing is the same. The difference is the experience between the stops - more committed throttle, more dynamic chassis response, more dune absorbed per minute.

Who this suits
Returning desert riders, enduro enthusiasts, drivers comfortable with high-power side-by-sides.
X3 is the headline chassis in our fleet; book early in winter for sunset slots.
X3 photographs well at the dune stops because of the colour scheme and roll-cage profile.
Standard chassis on first visit; X3 on the return.
Use cases & scenarios
Confirmed off-roader visiting Dubai
Self-drive X3 2-hour on the deep route. Bring your own helmet if it fits a familiar shell.
Anniversary headline chassis slot
X3 2-seater sunset, photographer add-on. Premium tier of the buggy line-up.
Friends comparing chassis
One X3, one standard buggy in private convoy. After the slot most groups agree the X3 is the upgrade worth booking.
If this, then that
- First time in any dune buggy
Standard chassis on the 1-hour route, then upgrade to X3 next visit. - Confident in 4x4 but new to side-by-sides
X3 1-hour on the standard route. The chassis transfers fast for confident drivers but the route should not stretch you. - Returning to Dubai after a previous buggy slot
X3 self-drive 2-hour - the natural step up from a standard guided previous experience. - You want the headline chassis but no licence
X3 guided slot - same chassis, you ride shotgun. Available on request, capacity limited.
Family, couple & group guidance
Start with the 1-hour route, not the 2-hour. The chassis is more demanding than the standard buggy.
Self-drive 2-hour on the deep-corridor route.
X3 2-seater sunset slot. Photographer add-on for the chassis-and-dune shot.
Self-drive X3 1- or 2-hour - lead guide ahead, your own line within the convoy.
Local context & geography
X3 self-drive uses the same dune corridor as standard buggy slots. The corridor's deeper sections (third dune zone on the 2-hour route) suit the X3's longer suspension travel - the chassis absorbs the harder hits without bottoming out. We pair X3 with the longer routes by default.
Pickup & meeting points
Same hotel pickup window as standard buggy slots from most central Dubai zones. The X3 chassis is allocated per-slot; we confirm chassis availability at booking. Drive time to staging 40-70 minutes. See our Dubai pickup zones for the full hotel cluster map.
How we run it
We added the X3 to the fleet because the standard chassis was the right entry but felt limiting to confirmed drivers. The X3 is genuinely the upgrade it sounds like - more power, more suspension, more chassis. We do not allocate the X3 to obviously-inexperienced drivers without recalibration at the staging area; the chassis can outperform the rider in soft sand, and we would rather start the slot on the standard buggy if the experience does not match the brief.
Pricing in plain English
The X3 carries a chassis premium over the standard buggy at the same duration. The premium reflects the fleet allocation cost (X3 chassis are a smaller share of the fleet) and the maintenance cycle (turbo engines need more frequent service). Per-driver rate; passenger rate (if applicable) is separate. Final price on WhatsApp.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Booking X3 as your first ever dune buggy slot - start on standard chassis.
- Underestimating the throttle bite - X3 turbo answers faster than standard.
- Skipping the warm-up loop - the X3 needs the recalibration time more than the standard chassis.
- Booking last-minute in peak winter - X3 capacity fills first.
- Not bringing the licence - same rule as any self-drive slot.
